One of the best ways to create a festive atmosphere in your home is through smell. We all associate certain smells with Christmas. For some it is the brandy they pour over their Christmas cake; for others it is the smell of gingerbread freshly baked; but most people agree that Christmas should smell of cinnamon, cloves, oranges, cranberries and mulled wine. It is so easy to create this scent at home - without having to buy scented candles or bring unwanted chemicals into your home. Here's what you do:
Cranberry, Apple & Cinnamon Pot Potpourri:
What you'll need:
2 big oranges
3 cinnamon sticks ( you can find these in local fruit & veg shops and all supermarkets)
1 pack of cranberries (frozen is fine)
a good sprinkle of cloves
2 teaspoons of mixed spice
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
2 sprigs of Christmas Tree.
Put all your bits and pieces into one large pot and add water - you basically want a full pot. Allow to simmer and let the scent travel through your home.
If you think that is too much trouble, why not just pierce your oranges with cloves and leave them around your house? The scent will soon carry from room to room and spread some Chrsitmas Cheer!
